I have a new W7 laptop and going through installing FREE and essential software.
I will add more accordingly.
Click link to open in new window.
7-Zip
CCleaner (Check out others nice software from the same provider)
Notepad++
Print to PDF
ULTRADEFRAG
VirtualBox
WinMD5
WinMerge
WinSCP
Xming X Server
What software do you like and are currently using?
Hi.
Portable Apps (Even installed statically on a PC include many of the things you like)
)
MobaXTerm (I prefer it to Xming, but each to their own.
Filezilla (but WinSCP probably does everything you need)
Chrome, Firefox and Opera (Always worth testing on a number of browsers
Oracle SQL Developer (If you do SQL and PL/SQL)
ImgBurn
I’m sure there are more things…
Cheers
Tim…

Double commander (or total commander, on windows i prefer this instead of the dreaded windows file explorer)
Keepass (for opening my password file)
OpenOffice (to be able to openup some doc or docx files)
Truecrypt (to open truecrypt containers)
I proberly forget some usefull things as well

I use bleachbit instead of ccleaner and cygwin instead of WinSCP, Ming X server, WinMD5 and a host of other stuff. Plus, Cygwin makes my PC look and feel right, with “bash”. As for the editors, I use vim. And yes, I use Windows only when I have to, like on my company’s laptop. I don’t see why would I need to defragment my file systems even more aggressively than Microsoft does it by default?
